We no longer make business rates credit balances available publicly, see below.
For details of ratepayers/occupancy of commercial properties please email [email protected] (there is no need to submit this as an FOI request).
Business rates (NNDR) credit balances
The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) published information highlighting the risks of releasing details of NNDR (National Non Domestic Rates) credit balances, in particular the potential for fraud to be committed using this information. Therefore we have reviewed the data we make publicly available, and from August 2017 the council will no longer publish these credit balances on our website, or release them in response to an FOI request.
The legislation which applies is Section 31(1) (a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (legislation.gov.uk) which states that information can be withheld if disclosing it could affect the prevention or detection of crime.

Information for local business owners
You can access your account online to see a statement of your account, including details of what you have been charged, any relief or exemptions you have been given and the payments that you have made.
The council takes a proactive approach to ensure business rate credits are refunded by:
- automatically refunding you, by BACS payment, if your account is in credit and you pay by direct debit
- automatically refunding you, by cheque, if your account is in credit as a result of a change in the Rateable Value (RV) of your premises, and you don't pay by direct debit
- putting a note on your bill if you are in credit, asking you to contact us with your bank details to arrange a refund by BACS payment
