If we have carried out a financial assessment and it is clear you have savings or investments over £23,250, you will not be eligible for support with the cost of that care from the council. You will be considered a ‘self-funder’.
What if I need care at home?
If you have funds above £23,250, it is your responsibility to arrange your own care and support services as a private arrangement. You can find information on providers in the Warrington area by visiting our My Life Warrington website
When searching and considering home care providers, it may be useful to consult the care quality commission website to support your decision making
Alternatively, the council can arrange care and support services on your behalf. If your services are arranged by the council, you will be expected to pay our standard rates for our care and support services. These figures will be reviewed annually. You will also be asked to pay an administrative fee for arranging that care and support.
If the council is to arrange care and support on your behalf, the fees the council charges can be found on in the factsheets at the bottom of our paying for care page. (link to the page)
What if I need residential or nursing care?
If you have funds above £23,250 you can arrange your own residential care, this may be a permanent or temporary (described as respite care) contract. This can be arranged directly with a care home as a private arrangement. You can find information on providers in the Warrington area by visiting our My Life Warrington website
When searching and considering home care providers, it may be useful to consult the care quality commission website to support your decision making
If you have more than £23,250 in savings and yourself or a family member are unable to make the arrangements, we can support you to do this.
What happens if my savings run out?
When your savings drop to below £23,250, you may be entitled to support from us to assist with the cost of your care and support. You should contact us when you think your savings have dropped to around £30,000. This will give us time to make the necessary arrangements. We will arrange to carry out a financial assessment. This will determine how much you contribute towards the cost of your care.
If the cost of current providers or placement is more than the we would normally pay, we would look to move you to a provider or setting that has a contract with us at our agreed rates. Should you choose a provider that charges above the agreed fees, an additional contribution would be considered.
